Croquet mallets and balls in Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Moira
The short answer: players in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Moira and Swadlincote can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online with delivery anywhere in north-west Leicestershire. For a club that plays almost all year, we would recommend the Invictus Rise first.
Croquet in Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Moira
Ashby Croquet Club was formed in 1985 and since 2001 has played at the sports grounds of Moira Miners' Welfare Sports and Social Club on Bath Lane, opposite the Conkers Waterside entrance. Croquet England's directory lists three lawns, and the club, in the East Midlands Federation, has more than sixty members playing association and golf croquet. The main season runs from April to October with four open sessions a week, and members play on through a winter season from mid-November to mid-February, weather permitting. The 2026 calendar brought a Northern Stars qualifying heat, golf croquet series events at A, B, C and D level, and the National Forest golf croquet doubles at the end of August. Introductory sessions are offered for newcomers.
What Ashby's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
North-west Leicestershire is inland and moderately dry, but a club that plays from November to February meets cold, soft and often wet grass for a good part of the year. Summer series weekends can run on firm, quicker lawns. One mallet for both needs mass to move the ball through heavy turf and enough forgiveness to stay accurate when the surface speeds up.
Which Invictus mallet suits Ashby players
Invictus Rise, £525. The mallet our customers order most. It has an aluminium head close to 3 lb, shaped so the sweet spot is slightly larger; the result is a mallet a little easier to control. Take the 11 inch head; that is our standard advice.
RF Pro, £975. At the top of the range sits the RF Pro, which World Champion Robert Fletcher helped us develop. It weighs approximately 2 lb 12 oz, lighter than the Rise and very precise, thanks to a 3D printed aluminium head that carries brass weights and composite faces.
Each mallet is made to order for you: handle length to your measurement, head length 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black costs nothing; Snow White, Rose Gold, NRA Blue and Deep Purple are £89 options. Weight is part of each design. Our fitting page and comparison help you decide.
Balls for Ashby clubs
Invictus X sets cost £479 each. The ball weighs 450 g, it is made entirely in Australia, and it carries World Croquet Federation approval for championship events. Three lawns would take, as a guide, three sets in first colours and three in second. See how many ball sets a club needs.

Questions Ashby players ask
Will a 3 lb head suit winter sessions? Yes; on soft winter grass its weight does the work for you.
Could I play a series event with it before I decide? Yes. The satisfaction guarantee is optional, costs £75 and runs for 30 days.
Does frost or wet hurt the head? No. Wipe the faces when you finish; product care has more.
